Lintan Chengguanzhen is the county seat of Lintan, in the Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of southern Gansu. It lies in highland country near the Tao River, where valleys cut between steep mountains. From above, the town stretches along the valley floor, with streets following the lie of the land and roads climbing into the surrounding hills.
The area has a long history as a meeting point of different cultures, with Han, Hui and Tibetan communities living in the region. The town is associated with historic Taozhou, and its old city walls and traditions have made it known as a place where trade routes between the highlands and the lowlands met.
