Lodja is the largest town in Sankuru province, in the middle of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Its map is less formal than a colonial-era grid: a loose centre of streets gives way to wide residential quarters, and dirt roads run out across the surrounding country. The town is served by an airstrip, which appears as one long, straight line on its edge.
The region is closely associated with the Tetela people, and Lodja acts as a market and administrative hub for a large rural hinterland.
