Pobé lies in the Plateau department of southeastern Benin, a short distance west of the border with Nigeria. From above, the town is a loose cluster of streets around a main road, with compounds and yards giving way to fields and patches of woodland. There is no coastline or large river to shape it, so the road network does most of the work on the map.
The area is known for agriculture, and Pobé has long been associated with research on the oil palm, one of the region's main crops.
