Raseborg, or Raasepori in Finnish, stretches along the southern coast of Finland in western Uusimaa. It was formed in 2009 from the towns of Ekenäs and Karis and the municipality of Pohja, and most residents speak Swedish as their first language. From above, it is a landscape of long bays, narrow peninsulas and islands, with lakes and forests inland.
Ekenäs, the largest town, sits on a peninsula with water on several sides. Its old wooden quarter keeps a compact pattern of narrow streets near the harbour. Offshore, the Ekenäs Archipelago National Park spreads into a scattering of islets, while inland the medieval ruins of Raseborg Castle stand on a rocky rise that once overlooked the sea.
