Redcar Map Poster & Print
Redcar is a seaside town on the north-east coast of England, where the mouth of the River Tees meets the North Sea. Its most striking feature on a map is the coastline: a long, straight, sandy beach running south-east for miles. Behind it, the town's Victorian and Edwardian terraces line up in parallel rows close to the shore.
To the west lies the large site of the former Redcar steelworks, whose blast furnace was one of the biggest in Europe until it closed in 2015. The industrial land along the Tees is still clearly visible on a map. The town also has a racecourse, and its beach was used for the Dunkirk evacuation scene in the film Atonement.
A Redcar map poster places the residential town between two very different edges: the flat sweep of the beach and the broad industrial estate along the river. The contrast between terraced streets, open sands and large industrial blocks makes it an unusually graphic map for a seaside town.

Terraced streets
Rows of terraced houses run in tight parallel lines behind the seafront, creating a regular, close-knit pattern that is typical of northern English towns.
Teesside industry
To the west, the former steelworks and industrial land occupy large blocks near the river mouth, a reminder of the area's long industrial past.

Redcar is home for many people whose families worked at the steelworks or on the coast, and a place where people have walked the beach for generations. A map of the town honours both sides of its identity.
