San Giovanni la Punta lies on the southern slopes of Mount Etna, just above Catania. The ground rises steadily toward the volcano, and the town's streets respond to it. Some roads climb directly uphill, while others curve across the slope, forming a dense and irregular fabric that merges with neighbouring towns on almost every side.
