Sant'Antimo belongs to the Metropolitan City of Naples and lies on the flat land north of the city, in an area where towns have grown until their edges touch. From above it is one of the densest patterns in the region: courtyard houses, narrow streets and small squares packed together, with only a few wider roads cutting through.
The town takes its name from Saint Anthimus, and its historic centre still has the compact, inward-facing structure typical of the old agricultural towns of this plain, with buildings arranged around private courtyards.
