Sekimachi-minami is a residential district in Nerima, on the western side of Tokyo's 23 wards, close to the boundary with Musashino. The map shows the fine-grained pattern typical of Tokyo's suburbs. There are narrow, irregular lanes, small blocks of detached houses and low apartment buildings, and a few wider roads carrying traffic across the neighbourhood.
The area grew in the twentieth century as Tokyo expanded west along private railway lines. Fields turned into streets that often follow old paths rather than a planned grid. Small parks, schools and temple grounds break up the dense housing. The nearby Seibu Shinjuku Line draws a strong line across the surrounding map.
