Singapore Island, also called Pulau Ujong, is the main island of the city-state. The narrow Straits of Johor separate it from the Malaysian state of Johor. On a map it is roughly diamond-shaped and broad from east to west, and decades of land reclamation have pushed its edges outward. The Causeway and the Second Link cross the strait to the north and west.
The centre of the island is unusually green. The Central Catchment Nature Reserve surrounds a group of reservoirs, including MacRitchie, and nearby Bukit Timah Hill is the island's highest point. Around this core, expressways link planned new towns. The historic city and the Marina Bay waterfront lie in the south, where the Singapore River meets the sea.
