Soliman lies at the base of the Cap Bon peninsula in Nabeul Governorate, a few kilometres inland from the southern shore of the Gulf of Tunis. From above, the town has a dense old core of narrow streets, with newer neighbourhoods around it and fields and orchards spreading across the plain. Roads lead north to the coast, where the beach area of Soliman Plage looks out across the gulf.
The town was settled in the early seventeenth century by Andalusian Muslims expelled from Spain, and that heritage is still part of its identity, including in the architecture of its old mosque. Its location near the capital and the sea has made it both a farming centre and a destination for summer visitors from Tunis.
