Thorne Map Poster & Print
Thorne lies in the low, flat country north-east of Doncaster, in an area once dominated by marsh and fen. From above, the town centres on a small market place, with its streets spreading out over ground that barely rises above sea level. The Stainforth and Keadby Canal passes along its southern side, and the River Don is not far to the west.
The town is served by two railway stations, Thorne North and Thorne South, on separate lines, and the rail routes draw long straight lines across the map. To the east lie Thorne Moors, part of the Humberhead Peatlands, one of the largest areas of lowland raised bog in Britain.
A Thorne map poster shows the town gathered between canal and railway, with the open, level landscape stretching away in every direction. It is a simple, well-structured composition that reflects the character of this corner of South Yorkshire.

Two stations
Thorne North and Thorne South sit on different railway lines, whose tracks cross the flat land in long, straight strokes on either side of the town.
Thorne Moors
East of the town, the vast peatlands of Thorne Moors form a broad, empty area on the map, a protected landscape of raised bog and wetland.
