Vecsés is in Pest County, directly southeast of Budapest, next to Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport. On a map, that neighbour is impossible to miss. The long runways and terminal grounds sit right beside the town, and their straight, oversized lines contrast with the fine grid of residential streets that make up most of Vecsés.
The town has a strong German heritage. It was settled by Danube Swabian families in the eighteenth century, and it is best known across Hungary for its sauerkraut, celebrated at an annual festival. The streets follow a mostly regular plan of long parallel roads, with the railway to Szolnok and the main road toward the capital cutting firm diagonals through it.
