Streets wrap along hillsides rather than cutting straight across them. They create long, sweeping curves that give the poster a sense of movement.

Xinshi Map Poster & Print
Xinshi is a town within Chongqing municipality, in the steep, folded landscape that surrounds the upper Yangtze. From above, it looks nothing like a flat plains town. Its roads follow the lie of the land, tracing hillsides and valley floors, and the built-up area stretches along the easiest ground instead of spreading evenly.
Much of the countryside around Chongqing is terraced. On a detailed map that shows up as fine, stacked lines hugging the slopes, and the town's streets pick up the same rhythm. They switch back and curve instead of meeting at right angles, which gives the plan a flowing, almost calligraphic quality.
A Xinshi map poster brings out that relationship between settlement and terrain. The road network becomes a record of how people have fitted a town into difficult ground. It is a striking piece for anyone with ties to this part of Chongqing, and the curving lines stand up well as pure graphic design.

Valley-floor spine
Denser building gathers where the ground levels out. The result is a clear central band that the rest of the town hangs from.
Folded landscape
The ridges and valleys of the Chongqing region surround the town. Winding roads and irregular lanes show that hilly setting even without shaded relief.
