Te mape
Dharān lies exactly where the flat Terai gives way to the hills of eastern Nepal. From above the change is abrupt: a regular pattern of streets fills the lower slope, then stops against steep, folded ground to the north. Seasonal streams cut down from the ridges, leaving pale channels that break the town into sections before fading into the plain.
For several decades in the twentieth century Dharān was home to a British Gurkha recruitment camp, and its large, orderly grounds were later handed over to become the B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences. That campus remains one of the most recognisable shapes on the map, a spacious block of buildings and trees set apart from the denser market streets.
A Dharān map poster captures that meeting of plain and hill. Main roads run straight down toward the lowlands, the road to Dhankuta winds up into the ridges, and the grid in between is tidy yet never rigid. It is a map with a clear sense of up and down, even in flat black lines.
The northern edge of town meets the hills sharply. Dense streets end and winding roads begin, giving the top of the poster a completely different texture from the bottom.
The former Gurkha camp, now a health sciences institute, forms a large, open block with its own internal roads, easy to pick out against the tighter commercial streets.
The highway to Dhankuta leaves town in a series of switchbacks, a thin looping line that pulls the eye up into the hills beyond the built-up area.

Aiheā Dharān
Dharān carries strong ties for many Nepali families, including those with Gurkha service, and for graduates of its medical institute. A map of the town is a subtle way to mark those years, far more personal than a photograph of a single landmark.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps a graduation year or a family name, and pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Noir makes the hill roads stand out sharply.
