Te mape
Isogo is one of the wards of Yokohama, on the southern side of the city facing Tokyo Bay. Its map divides into two very different halves. Along the water, reclaimed land extends into the bay in broad rectangular blocks laid out for industry, port facilities and power generation. Behind the former shoreline the ground rises quickly into hills, where housing follows ridges and valleys in dense, irregular patterns.
The JR Negishi Line runs along the foot of those hills, roughly tracing the line of the old coast before twentieth-century reclamation pushed it outward. The stations along it act as small local centres, each with shopping streets and a knot of roads branching uphill. Further inland, wooded slopes too steep to build on break up the housing and show as quiet gaps on the map.
An Isogo map poster suits anyone who has lived between the bay and the hills and knows how sharply the two meet. The engineered geometry of the waterfront, all straight edges and piers, sits against the organic tangle of hillside streets, giving the print a strong sense of contrast even in a single colour.

The railway follows the base of the hills along the former coastline, a steady line with station neighbourhoods gathered at intervals along it.
Inland, narrow roads twist over ridges and down into valleys, creating a dense, fine-grained pattern broken by steep green slopes left unbuilt.

Aiheā Isogo
For residents of Isogo the ward is defined by climbs, sea views and the train along the bay. A map captures that daily geography in a way photographs rarely do, and the contrast of coast and hills makes a strong composition.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a station name or the year you moved in. Choose among Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, then download the files for $9 or order a matte print.
