Masirah sits in the Arabian Sea off the east coast of Oman, separated from the mainland by a shallow channel. From above it is long and slender, stretched along a north–south axis, with a line of low, rocky hills running down its middle and sandy beaches on both sides. The outline is simple and strong, the kind of shape that reads clearly even at small scale.
The two coasts face different waters. The eastern shore takes the open Arabian Sea and its monsoon swell, while the western side looks across the calmer channel towards the mainland. Settlements and roads keep mostly to the coastal strips, and the interior stays largely empty. The north of the island holds its main town and an airfield that served as a Royal Air Force station for decades before passing to Oman.
The beaches are known as one of the most important nesting grounds in the world for loggerhead turtles, and green, hawksbill and olive ridley turtles come ashore here too. A Masirah Island map poster keeps the island's plain geometry: one long body of land, a thin coastal road and the sea on every side, set against a clean white or dark field.
A chain of low, rocky hills runs along the centre of the island, so the land rises gently from both coasts towards a dry interior with very few roads.
Long sandy shores, especially on the seaward side, are major nesting grounds for loggerhead turtles and host several other species during the nesting season.
A shallow channel divides the island from the Omani coast. On a map it appears as a narrow band of water that echoes the island's own elongated shape.

Aiheā Masirah Island
Masirah suits anyone who has worked on the island, crossed on the ferry for the turtles or simply likes a strong, elemental silhouette. The long outline holds a vertical frame well, with plenty of sea around it to let the shape breathe.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps the dates of a posting or a trip, and choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand in particular suits this dry, desert-edged coast.
