Toukountouna is a town and commune in the Atakora department of north-western Benin, in the hilly country of the Atakora range. The landscape is one of ridges, savanna, farmland and scattered homesteads, and the town itself is small, gathered around the roads that connect it to Natitingou and neighbouring communes.
From above the settlement is loose and open. A main road passes through, with lanes and paths branching off to compounds, fields and outlying hamlets. The pattern is shaped by the land and by daily routes, more than by any formal plan, and it thins quickly into countryside.
