Afurada de Baixo lies on the south bank of the Douro in Vila Nova de Gaia, close to where the river enters the Atlantic. Across the water are the western districts of Porto and the old seaside quarter of Foz. That position shapes the map: a broad band of river, a waterfront edge and a network of streets climbing gently inland.
The area is known for Afurada, a fishing community whose small streets, boats and shared washing tanks still give the waterfront its character. Just to the west, the Cabedelo sandspit curves into the river mouth and shelters an estuary that is protected as a nature reserve. Inland, residential blocks and roads connect to the rest of Gaia.

Cabedelo sandspit
A curved spit of sand reaches into the river mouth from the south bank. It shelters the estuary behind it and draws a soft, recognisable outline at the map's western edge.
Fishing quarter
