Ajim sits on the southwestern edge of Djerba, where the island reaches closest to the mainland. From above, the town is a loose cluster of low blocks and courtyard houses spread along a flat shoreline. Toward the water, the grid breaks into quays, a ferry landing and the shallow shapes of the lagoon. Inland, roads fan out across open ground toward the rest of the island.

Shallow southern shore
The coastline here is soft and irregular, with lagoons and flats instead of cliffs. Its thin, hesitant edge contrasts with the denser pattern of streets just behind it.
