Bigadiç lies in the interior of Balıkesir province in western Turkey, in a valley surrounded by hills. From above, the town is a compact grid of streets on the valley floor. Main roads lead toward Balıkesir and neighbouring districts, and farmland and wooded slopes spread out around it. A stream runs through the valley and gives the map a natural line.
The district is known for its boron minerals. The hills around Bigadiç hold large borate deposits, and mining has made the name familiar well beyond the region. The mines appear on wider maps as irregular, cleared areas in the landscape, a clear contrast to the orderly town blocks.
