Cernavodă lies on the right bank of the Danube in Constanța County, at the point where the river swings closest to the Black Sea coast. On a map, water defines almost everything: the broad river channel to the west, the braided arms and islands of the floodplain beyond it, and the straight cut of the Danube–Black Sea Canal leaving the river right beside the town.
The town itself is compact, with streets climbing gently from the riverfront toward the higher ground of Dobruja. Its grid is modest, but it is framed by infrastructure on a national scale. The railway bridge designed by engineer Anghel Saligny, completed in 1895, crosses the Danube here and was for years among the longest bridges in Europe. A Cernavodă map poster shows that engineering laid directly over the natural geography of the river.
Cernavodă is also home to Romania's only nuclear power station, whose site sits just outside the town. For many people the name is associated with power and transport rather than with streets, yet the map reveals an ordinary, lived-in town at the centre of all those lines, looking out over one of the great rivers of Europe.
The historic railway crossing over the Danube, opened in 1895, draws a long straight line across the river and its floodplain, one of the most striking features anywhere on this map.
The Danube–Black Sea Canal begins at Cernavodă, and its ruler-straight channel heading east contrasts sharply with the looping, irregular banks of the river itself.
West of the town the Danube spreads into channels, islands and low wetland, a dense pattern of water shapes that fills the sheet with texture even in plain black and white.

Ko e hā ʻa Cernavodă
Cernavodă suits anyone with ties to the Danube, to Dobruja, or to the engineers and workers who built its bridges and canal. The meeting of river, canal and railway gives a small town an unusually strong graphic structure that holds up well on a wall.
Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, then personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a year that matters to you. A free 900 px preview lets you check the framing before buying the $9 HD files or a printed poster.
