Cramlington is a town in south-east Northumberland, north of Newcastle upon Tyne. It grew rapidly as a planned new town from the 1960s onwards. The map shows this clearly: instead of a grid, it is made up of residential estates with curving roads and cul-de-sacs, separated by green corridors and connected by main distributor roads.
The town centre sits at the middle of the layout, and industrial estates are grouped along the edges.
