Demak lies on the low coastal plain of Central Java, east of Semarang, in country crossed by rivers, irrigation channels and rice fields. In the late fifteenth and early sixteenth centuries it was the seat of the Demak Sultanate, the first Islamic sultanate on Java. That past still shapes the centre of the town.
At the heart of the map is the alun-alun, the open town square found in many Javanese towns. The Great Mosque of Demak stands on its western side. The mosque is among the oldest in Indonesia and remains an important pilgrimage site. From the square, streets run outward in a loose grid along the main roads toward neighbouring towns.
Beyond the centre the pattern breaks up into long ribbons of houses along roads and canals, with paddy fields filling the spaces between and small villages clustered along the embankments. A Demak map poster captures the change from a dense, ordered core to a watery farming landscape. The channels are drawn in fine lines where they cut across the plain.
The open square at the centre forms a clear, blank rectangle on the map. It is the traditional civic heart of a Javanese town, and the older streets are arranged around it.
The Great Mosque stands on the west side of the square. It is one of Indonesia's oldest mosques and is closely linked to the spread of Islam on Java.
Irrigation channels and small rivers cross the flat land around the town. Houses follow them in narrow strips between the rice fields.

Demak matters to many Javanese families and to anyone interested in the island's history. A map centred on the square and the mosque is a quiet way to mark a hometown, a pilgrimage or a place where relatives still live.
Write your own title and subtitle, perhaps in Indonesian or Javanese, and adjust the coordinates line. Pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Then download 300 DPI PNG and PDF files for $9, or order a printed poster.
