Franklin follows a familiar New England pattern. The roads converge on a central common, then spread out through wooded residential areas, with small ponds and wetlands scattered between them. A commuter rail line runs through the town and Interstate 495 curves across its northern and western sides. From above, the older crossroads are easy to see among the newer loops of later housing developments.
The town was incorporated in 1778 and named after Benjamin Franklin. When residents asked him for a church bell, he sent books instead. That gift became the basis of what is considered the first public lending library in the United States, and the Franklin Public Library still operates today. Dean College sits close to the town centre, giving the downtown a small campus next to its common.
A Franklin map poster shows the centre compactly: the common, the college grounds and the older streets around them, set against the looser pattern of the outer neighbourhoods. On paper it has the clear, practical look typical of a Massachusetts town, where every road still seems to lead back to the green.

A commuter rail line cuts through Franklin toward Boston, a firm straight line crossing the curving residential streets and linking the town to the wider region.
The broad curve of I-495 sweeps around the edge of town, its interchanges forming strong geometric shapes against the wooded residential streets.

For Dean College graduates, Boston commuters and families settled in the town, Franklin is a place worth marking. There is also its link to Benjamin Franklin's books, which makes the map an especially fitting gift for readers and librarians.
