Gosforth lies just north of central Newcastle upon Tyne, and its shape is set by the old Great North Road. The road runs north through the suburb as the High Street, and terraced streets and Victorian and Edwardian homes branch off on either side. Parks and green corridors, including the valley of the Ouseburn, break up the residential grid.
To the south, the Town Moor forms a wide open area between Gosforth and the city centre. To the north, High Gosforth Park contains Newcastle Racecourse, whose large oval stands out clearly from above. The Metro line also runs through the area, connecting Gosforth with the city and the coast.
