Kamienna Góra lies in the upper Bóbr valley in Lower Silesia, southwestern Poland, not far from the Czech border. Known in German as Landeshut, it grew as a textile town in the foothills of the Sudetes. The historic centre forms a compact block around a rectangular market square, and from it streets fall toward the river and climb the slopes beyond.
The relief around the town gives it its shape. Hills close in from several directions, including the Rudawy Janowickie range to the northwest, and the built-up area stretches along the valley floor rather than spreading evenly. Railway lines and roads follow the same valleys, so the map reads as a set of corridors meeting at the centre.
