Kasanje is a town in Wakiso District, in Uganda's Central Region, southwest of Kampala and not far from the northern shores of Lake Victoria. The area has long been farmland on rolling hills. In recent years the outward growth of greater Kampala has brought new homes, trading centres and small businesses, though bananas, coffee and vegetables are still grown on many plots.
From above, the landscape follows the classic Buganda pattern: settlements and roads on the ridges and hilltops, with papyrus and swampy valleys in the low ground between. The streets are irregular and bend with the hills, and the town centre is a cluster of trading lanes where the main roads meet. This is a map of curves and soft edges rather than grids.
