Niger River bank
The broad river runs along the town, and its sandbanks and channels give the map a large, soft shape that contrasts with the streets.

Koulikoro lies on the left bank of the Niger River, downstream from Bamako. The river is wide here and dominates the map. The town stretches along the bank, and a rocky ridge rises behind it, keeping the built-up area in a narrow strip between the hills and the water.
Koulikoro is the eastern end of the Dakar–Niger railway, which was built in the colonial period to connect the Atlantic coast with the river. From here, goods could continue by boat along the Niger. The town's river port and the railway line are among the main features of its layout.
The town is also the capital of the Koulikoro Region, one of the largest in Mali. A Koulikoro map poster shows a place defined by two routes, the rail line arriving overland and the river flowing on toward the interior.
The broad river runs along the town, and its sandbanks and channels give the map a large, soft shape that contrasts with the streets.
The Dakar–Niger line ends here, and its tracks lead into town toward the river, where rail and water transport once met.
High ground behind the town limits its spread, so the streets form a long band parallel to the river.

Ko e hā ʻa Koulikoro
Koulikoro holds a special place for people who know the Niger and the old route from the coast. A map of the riverbank and railway tells that story in a few lines.
The title and subtitle can be written in French, Bambara or English, and the coordinates line is editable. Styles include Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
