The Jalangi River

Krishnanagar is the headquarters of Nadia district in West Bengal, set beside the Jalangi River in the flat country of the Gangetic delta. The river bends along the edge of the town. Inside, the street map is irregular and fine-grained, a mesh of narrow lanes rather than a planned grid. Railway lines and highways cross this pattern and link the town to Kolkata in the south.
The town takes its name from Maharaja Krishnachandra Roy, an eighteenth-century ruler of Nadia whose palace, the Rajbari, still stands near the centre. Krishnanagar is also known for the clay figures of Ghurni, a neighbourhood whose artisans have modelled detailed, lifelike dolls for generations, and for its sweets, sarpuria and sarbhaja among them.
A Krishnanagar map poster turns this delta town into a study of texture: the soft curve of the Jalangi, the dense clusters of lanes, and the ponds and green gaps scattered between them. In black and white, the lack of a grid is what makes the image interesting. It shows a place that grew slowly, one lane and one household at a time.

The old palace of the Nadia rulers anchors the historic centre. The streets around it are among the oldest in town and show the dense, organic layout of a former royal seat.
The neighbourhood of the clay-doll makers sits within the town's fabric. On the map it looks like any other cluster of lanes, but for many people it is the town's best-known address.

Ko e hā ʻa Krishnanagar
Krishnanagar is a place people carry with them, whether they grew up near the Rajbari, studied in the town or still visit family during the festival season. A map of its lanes and river is a personal way to keep that connection on the wall.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line are yours to change, so the poster can name a neighbourhood, a family or a date that matters. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Paper gives the delta lanes a soft, printed-page feel.
