Layka lies in the Hotan area of southern Xinjiang, on the band of irrigated land between the Kunlun Mountains and the Taklamakan Desert. Here water comes almost entirely from rivers fed by meltwater from the mountains to the south, and settlements depend on it.
On the map, the oasis is clearly defined: a network of canals and roads lined with trees divides the land into long, regular fields, and villages sit along these lines. Where irrigation stops, the detail disappears and the plain turns to open desert.
A Layka map poster captures a landscape shaped by water management. The edge between cultivated land and sand is the strongest line in the composition. The wider Hotan region has long been known for its jade, which was carried down from the mountains by its rivers.
Straight irrigation channels cross the oasis and carry mountain meltwater to the fields, giving the map a strong, regular framework.
Roads and field boundaries are often lined with rows of trees, which emphasise the geometric order of the farmland from above.
Beyond the last fields, the map suddenly empties into desert, making the edge of the oasis one of the most striking lines in the frame.

A map of an oasis is also a map of how people live with scarce water. It appeals to anyone with roots in southern Xinjiang, and to those who are simply drawn to the stark contrast between fields and sand.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line in any script or language, and choose from five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
