Longfellow is a community in south Minneapolis, stretching between Hiawatha Avenue and the Mississippi River. On a map, it is a textbook city grid of small residential blocks, with the river's wooded gorge and the curving parkway forming its eastern edge.
The names here come from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's poem The Song of Hiawatha, which made Minnehaha Falls famous. The falls and Minnehaha Park sit at the southern end of the area, where the creek drops into a small canyon before joining the Mississippi.
A Longfellow Community map poster shows the balance between ordered city streets and natural edges. The houses are mostly modest early-twentieth-century homes, and the neighbourhood's even grid gives way to river bluffs, parkway loops and wooded parkland at the edges.
The river runs along the eastern edge in a deep wooded gorge, with a parkway following the bluff above it.
At the southern end, Minnehaha Creek drops over the falls into a narrow glen, the centre of a large, winding park.
Small, regular blocks fill the area between Hiawatha Avenue and the river, a dense and even pattern of streets and alleys.

Residents, former residents and anyone who has walked to the falls or biked along the river parkway will recognise this map. The contrast between the straight grid and the river's curves makes it a great print.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with the date you moved in. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and download HD files or order a printed poster with an optional frame.
