Maihar lies in the Satna district of Madhya Pradesh, in country where low hills rise from farmland. The town's defining feature is Trikuta hill, which rises just outside the centre. At its summit stands the temple of Sharda Mata, reached by a long flight of steps and, more recently, a ropeway. On a map, the hill is a quiet, unbuilt shape beside the dense streets of the town.
Maihar is also important in the history of Indian classical music. It gave its name to the Maihar gharana, the tradition associated with Ustad Allauddin Khan, who taught here for decades. His pupils included Ravi Shankar and Ali Akbar Khan. Today the town combines pilgrimage traffic, a railway station and local industry, including cement production.
A Maihar map poster shows the relationship between a busy pilgrim town and the hill that gives it meaning. In print, the steps and roads leading up the slope become fine lines that point to the summit. It is a considered image for devotees, musicians and families from the district.

Close to the station and main roads, the town packs into a dense network of lanes. It forms a strong counterweight to the open hill.
A rail line crosses the flat land near town, bringing pilgrims from across India. It is drawn as a clean, straight line through the composition.

Maihar holds special meaning for pilgrims to Sharda Mata and for lovers of Hindustani classical music. A map of the town and its hill is a quiet, respectful keepsake for either.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with a name or a date of pilgrimage. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. HD files are $9, and printed posters with optional wooden frames are also available.
