Ko e mape
Miracatu lies in the Vale do Ribeira, the green, hilly region in the south of São Paulo state. On the map the town sits in a valley surrounded by steep, wooded slopes. Its streets follow the valley floor and the river, and there is little room to spread outwards. The Régis Bittencourt highway, BR-116, passes nearby on its way between São Paulo and Curitiba.
The municipality covers a large area, and much of it is Atlantic Forest, one of the largest remaining areas of this forest in Brazil. Outside the town, the countryside is known for banana farms, which fill the lower slopes and valley floors. On a map, this shows as a scatter of rural roads spreading into mostly open ground.
A Miracatu map poster is defined by its terrain. The town is small and fits into the valley, the highway curves through the hills, and the rest of the frame shows how thinly settled the forested land around it is. It suits people who travel this route or have roots in the Ribeira valley.
The town fills a narrow valley floor, so its streets run along the river and the lower slopes instead of forming a wide grid.
The Régis Bittencourt highway winds through the hilly municipality, one of the main road links between São Paulo and southern Brazil.
Atlantic Forest covers the higher ground, while banana farms occupy the valley floors, leaving large areas of the map almost free of streets.

Ko e hā ʻa Miracatu
Miracatu is a place many drive past on the way south, but for local families it is home in a valley surrounded by forest. The map shows the town at a scale where the landscape matters as much as the streets.
