Mitsukaidō was a city in south-western Ibaraki Prefecture until 2006, when it merged with the town of Ishige to form the city of Jōsō. The name still refers to the district around the old city centre and its station. The area sits on the flat Kantō plain, within easy reach of Tokyo, yet much of it remains rural.
On a map the defining features are water and flat land. The Kinu River runs north to south through the area, lined by embankments, and the smaller Kokai River flows to the east. Between and around them lie rice paddies divided into neat rectangles, with the built-up area concentrated near the rail line and main roads.
A Mitsukaidō map poster records a landscape shaped by rivers and farming. In 2015 the Kinu River broke its banks and flooded large parts of Jōsō, an event that made many people aware of how closely life here is tied to the water. In black and white, the river lines and field patterns stand out clearly.
A broad river with raised embankments crosses the area from north to south, a strong vertical line that divides the map and shapes how the town has grown.
Around the settlement, rice fields form a fine, regular pattern of rectangles, giving the flat plain a subtle texture in a minimalist print.
The densest streets gather around the railway station and main roads, a small urban core set within a largely agricultural landscape.

The name Mitsukaidō no longer appears on official maps, which is part of why a poster of it matters to those who grew up there. It keeps the old city's shape and name on the wall.
Add a title such as Mitsukaidō, a subtitle with a year or a family name, and the coordinates line. Choose one of five styles and download the HD files, or order a printed poster on matte paper.
