Msalātah lies in northwestern Libya, in the hills south of the coastal city of Al Khums. From above, the town spreads across uneven ground, with roads following the contours and streets branching out among cultivated land. The Mediterranean lies a short distance to the north, beyond the hills.
The layout is loose and irregular, shaped by the terrain rather than a planned grid. A Msalātah map poster shows the main roads winding through the town and the scattered blocks that grow more sparse toward its edges, with farmland and olive groves filling the spaces between.
The surrounding hills are known for olive cultivation, which has long been part of the local economy. The ancient Roman city of Leptis Magna, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, lies on the coast not far to the northeast.
Main roads curve across the hills, following the landscape and linking Msalātah to the coast and to towns further inland.
Streets and building clusters are spread across uneven ground, giving the town a loose, organic shape rather than a fixed grid.
Farmland and orchards surround the town, filling the gaps between neighbourhoods and softening the edges of the built-up area.
