Phalauda lies in western Uttar Pradesh, on the level land between the Ganges and the Yamuna known as the Doab. From above, the town reads as a dense cluster of short, irregular lanes. Built-up blocks press close together near the centre, and then the pattern opens abruptly into a quilt of cultivated plots that runs to the edge of the frame.
