Putaendo sits in a narrow valley in Chile's Valparaíso region, north of San Felipe, where the Putaendo river runs south toward the Aconcagua. From above, the town is long rather than round: its streets follow the valley floor, and the hills close in on both sides. The built-up area thins quickly into irrigated plots, and the dry, folded slopes of the Andean foothills beyond them.
The town is often called the cradle of Chilean independence. In early 1817, columns of the Army of the Andes came down from the mountain passes, and Putaendo is remembered as the first town they freed. The older part of the town still has single-storey adobe houses along its main axis, and that street is protected as a heritage zone.
A Putaendo map poster shows a simple, readable pattern: a spine of streets along the valley, short side streets running toward the river, and field boundaries spreading out across the flat ground. Rendered in fine black lines, the valley's shape comes through clearly, and the empty hillsides around it leave the sheet plenty of calm negative space.
The town stretches along the valley floor, so its main streets run roughly north to south. The result is a long, narrow outline that looks very different from a compact grid town.
The Putaendo river and the irrigation around it produce a patchwork of plots and small lanes. On paper they read as a fine texture that fades into the open slopes.
The historic core lines one central axis of low adobe buildings. On the map it is the densest stretch of lines, and it is where most of the town's history happened.

Putaendo tends to matter to people with family roots in the Aconcagua valley, or to anyone who has driven north from San Felipe into the hills. A map of the valley town is a quiet reminder of that landscape and of the town's place in the story of 1817.
You can personalise the title, the subtitle and the coordinates line, for example with a family name or a meaningful date. There are five styles to choose from: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. The digital files cost $9, and printed, optionally framed posters ship from partners in more than 30 countries.
