Rapid City sits where the Black Hills meet the plains of western South Dakota. From above, a forested ridge runs through the city and divides it into two parts. The Gap is the passage through the ridge. Rapid Creek winds west to east, lined by a long greenway of parks and bike paths.

Skyline ridge
A wooded ridge runs through the middle of the city. Roads pass through the Gap, and on the poster the ridge appears as a quiet, open strip.
