Regente Feijó lies in the far west of São Paulo state, close to Presidente Prudente, in a landscape of low hills, pasture and cane fields. Its centre follows the regular rectangular blocks common to towns founded on this agricultural frontier. The map shows that order clearly, with parallel streets meeting at right angles and repeating block after block across the gently sloping ground.
The town is named after Diogo Antônio Feijó, the priest and politician who served as regent of the Brazilian Empire while Pedro II was still a child. On paper the central grid gives way at its edges to newer residential blocks set at slightly different angles. Beyond them come the curving lines of rural roads and the thin courses of streams in the surrounding valleys.
