Registro sits on the Ribeira de Iguape river in the south of São Paulo state, in a green, low-lying valley between the coastal mountains and the sea. The river is the central feature of any map of the town. It sweeps past in wide meanders, and the streets are arranged on its banks.
The name recalls a colonial-era post where gold carried along the river was registered. In the early twentieth century Registro became a centre of Japanese immigration in Brazil. The settlers grew tea there for decades, and that heritage is still part of the town's identity.
A Registro map poster shows a compact street grid pressed against a strong, curving river. Bridges link the two banks, and the floodplain around them stays mostly open. It is a simple composition with a clear focal point: the water, and the town that grew up where it could be crossed and controlled.
The wide river curves through the area in generous meanders. It is the dominant natural shape on the map.
The town centre's regular streets are laid out close to the water. They reflect the town's origins as a river post.
Bridges cross the Ribeira and connect the town to both banks. They stand out as short, strong lines across the water.

Ko e hā ʻa Registro
Registro holds a particular place in the story of Japanese Brazilians and in the life of the Vale do Ribeira. A poster of its river and streets is a way to honour that heritage or simply to remember home.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line are editable, so you can add a family name, a year or a few words of your own. Choose among five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
