Ribas do Rio Pardo is in eastern Mato Grosso do Sul, on the river it is named for. The town has a tidy grid of blocks, typical of planned Brazilian interior towns, and the Rio Pardo winds along its side with a band of riverside vegetation. Beyond the edge of town, the land opens into the cerrado and large farm holdings.
In recent years the area has become known for eucalyptus plantations and forestry. A large pulp mill was built nearby, and the surrounding landscape is increasingly divided into long, straight blocks of cultivated trees. Highway BR-262 passes through the municipality, linking it to Campo Grande to the west and to Três Lagoas to the east.
A Ribas do Rio Pardo map poster shows the town at the point where its grid meets the river. Regular squares sit against a looping waterway, and a highway crosses a wide, flat plateau. The drawing is clean and orderly, and it suits the character of a town that is changing fast.
The centre is laid out in regular square blocks. At poster scale that creates a crisp, checkerboard texture at the heart of the composition.
The river meanders past the town with a fringe of vegetation. Its curves soften the grid's straight edges.
The federal highway crosses the area in a long line. It sets a strong direction across the sheet and connects the town with the rest of the state.
