Sharifabad lies in the north of Pakistan's Punjab province, on the Potohar Plateau east of the Rawalpindi–Islamabad area. From above, the land is broken and uneven. Seasonal streams have carved ravines into the plateau, and the town's streets follow the higher, flatter ground between them, surrounded by rain-fed fields and scattered villages.
The Potohar region has its own character, different from the flat irrigated plains further south in Punjab. Settlements here grow along ridges and roads, fields are shaped by the terrain, and the foothills of the Himalaya are not far to the north. Sharifabad fits that pattern and keeps close ties with the nearby twin cities.
