Sidlaghatta sits on the dry, rolling plateau of southern Karnataka, north-east of Bengaluru. From above, the town is a tight knot of lanes with no single grid. Sidlaghatta has long been one of the region's main centres for silk cocoons and reeling, and that trade shaped how it grew: dense workshops and houses near the centre, with farmland and mulberry fields spreading out beyond.
