Spoleto climbs the slope of a hill at the southern edge of the Valle Umbra, and its plan records that climb. The upper town is compact and knotted, with lanes curving along the contours and stepped passages cutting between them. At the top stands the Rocca Albornoziana, the fourteenth-century papal fortress, whose rectangular outline anchors the whole composition when seen from above.
Below the historic core the city loosens into newer districts spreading across the flatter ground to the north, where roads straighten and blocks grow larger. Behind the Rocca, the ground drops into a gorge crossed by the Ponte delle Torri, a tall medieval aqueduct bridge, before rising again to the wooded slopes of Monteluco. A Spoleto map poster holds all of these layers in one frame.
Spoleto has Roman and medieval foundations, and its cathedral holds apse frescoes by Filippo Lippi, who is buried there. Since 1958 the town has also hosted the Festival dei Due Mondi, founded by the composer Gian Carlo Menotti, which brings music, theatre and dance into its piazzas each summer. Many visitors come to know the city first through that festival.
The papal fortress crowns the hilltop, a firm geometric block at the head of the old town from which the curving streets appear to unwind downhill.
This long medieval aqueduct bridge spans the gorge beside the Rocca, linking the town to the slopes of Monteluco. On the map it reads as a thin, deliberate line across open ground.
In the historic centre, streets bend to follow the hillside, producing concentric arcs broken by short, steep connectors. The pattern thins out abruptly where the old town meets the plain.

Spoleto tends to stay with people: a summer at the festival, a stay in Umbria, a family link to the town. Its tight hilltop core and the open valley below make an unusually balanced print, detailed at the centre and spacious toward the edges.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with a date or a short note, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Printed posters on matte paper, with an optional wooden frame, ship from print partners in more than 30 countries.
