Tame is a town in the department of Arauca, in eastern Colombia. It sits where the eastern range of the Andes gives way to the llanos, the wide tropical grasslands shared with Venezuela. Cattle ranching has long defined the economy and culture of the area, including the music and horsemanship of the plains.
On the map, Tame's streets form a fairly regular grid around a central plaza, as is typical of Colombian towns. The foothills rise to the west, and to the east the land flattens and opens up. Rivers come down from the mountains and wind across the plain, with bands of gallery forest along them.
Tame associates itself with the 1819 independence campaign, when patriot forces gathered on the llanos before crossing the Andes. A Tame map poster places the town on the line between mountain and plain. The ordered grid sits at the edge of a landscape that seems to go on without end.
The town centre follows a regular grid of blocks around the main plaza. In print it makes a neat, dense pattern against the open land.
West of town, the first ridges of the Andes rise from the plain. A wider crop shows the land changing from flat to folded.
Rivers leave the mountains and wander across the llanos in loose curves. They add movement to the map's otherwise open eastern side.

Ko e hā ʻa Tame
For llaneros and anyone with roots in Arauca, Tame stands for a way of life on the plains. A framed map of its streets and rivers is a quiet tribute to that landscape and to home.
