The Peak is the upper slopes and summit area of Victoria Peak, the highest point on Hong Kong Island. On a map, it is defined almost entirely by terrain. Roads wind back and forth across steep hillsides, paths follow the contours, and buildings sit on platforms cut into the slope. Below, the dense streets of Central and the harbour crowd the edge of the frame.
The Peak Tram, running since 1888, climbs the slope in a single straight line, in striking contrast to the looping roads around it. Near the top, Lugard Road and Harlech Road form a walking circuit around the summit. Residential lanes branch off into some of the most exclusive addresses in the city, surrounded by woodland and steep ravines.
For decades during the colonial era, who could live here was restricted, and the area is still a quiet enclave above the city. Framed on a wall, The Peak map poster turns this vertical landscape into a flat, graphic pattern. The curves of the roads and the straight line of the tram tell the story of the slope.
The funicular rises from Central toward the summit area in a nearly straight line, cutting across every road it meets and giving the map its most distinctive stroke.
Lugard Road and Harlech Road loop around the upper slopes, forming a ring of paths that follows the hillside and frames the summit on the poster.
Peak Road and the lanes below it zigzag down the mountainside. Their tight bends form layered, rhythmic lines that express how steep the ground is.

For many visitors, the view from the Peak is their first real sense of Hong Kong, and for residents it is a familiar walk above the city. The map suits anyone who has walked the summit circuit at dusk or ridden the tram up the slope.
