Tsiroanomandidy lies west of Antananarivo, on the open highlands that slope down toward the western part of Madagascar. The land around it is broad and grassy, with few obstacles to shape settlement, so the town spreads outward from its centre with roads running long distances across the plateau.
It is the capital of the Bongolava region and is known for one of the largest zebu cattle markets in Madagascar, drawing herders and traders from a wide area. The market gives the town an importance well beyond its size, linking it to cattle routes across the west of the island.
A Tsiroanomandidy map poster shows a town defined by space. The centre is a modest cluster of streets, and the roads that leave it run across open ground with little interruption. The map has an airy, spacious feel that suits the character of the highlands around it.
A compact area of streets forms the heart of town, where commerce gathers and the main routes come together.
Wide grasslands surround the town, giving the map broad empty space and making the road lines stand out clearly.
Routes run out toward the west of the island, forming long, straight lines that give the map a strong sense of direction.
