Tui stands on the north bank of the Miño River in southern Galicia, directly opposite the Portuguese fortress town of Valença. The river is the border. It flows broad and slow below the old town, and the two towns face each other from their hills on either side.
The cathedral crowns the hill at the heart of Tui. It was built with battlements, like a fortress, because of the town's position on a frontier. An iron bridge from the late nineteenth century carries road and rail across the river, and Tui is a major stop on the Portuguese Way of the Camino de Santiago.
A Tui map poster places the winding old town on its hill, the river, the bridges and a slice of Portugal all in one frame. It shows a border as it really is: a river, with streets on both sides.
The old town climbs a hill crowned by the fortified cathedral. Its streets curve to follow the slope in a tight, irregular pattern.
The river runs along the southern edge of town and separates Spain from Portugal. It is the widest and strongest line on the map.
The iron road and rail bridge links Tui to Valença. It is the historic crossing point between the two countries.

Tui has a special pull for pilgrims on the Camino and for anyone who has crossed the Miño on foot. A map records the place where many journeys through Galicia begin.
Add a pilgrimage date, a name or the start point of your walk to the title and subtitle. Paper suits the old stone town, and Noir brings out the line of the river.
