Te mapa
Agadez sits on the southern edge of the Sahara in northern Niger. From above, the old town is an irregular maze of narrow lanes and closed courtyards, built from earth and laid out without a grid. Newer, more regular neighbourhoods surround it, and beyond them the desert begins with almost no transition.
For centuries the town was a hub of trans-Saharan trade and an important Tuareg centre. Its historic centre has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 2013. The mud-brick minaret of the Grand Mosque, around 27 metres tall, is the tallest structure of its kind and the symbol of the city.
An Agadez map poster captures a desert town where the shape of the streets reflects centuries of trade, climate and custom. The dense organic core, the more ordered districts around it and the empty ground beyond make a striking contrast, and the print reads almost like a woven textile.

The mosque and its tall mud-brick minaret stand in the old town. It is the point the historic streets are oriented around and the town's best-known landmark.
Past the outer neighbourhoods the map opens into desert with only scattered tracks. That empty space frames the town and makes it feel like an island.

Agadez appeals to travellers, researchers and people with family ties to northern Niger, and also to anyone drawn to the architecture of desert towns. Its organic street pattern is unlike almost any other place on a map.
