Te mapa
Agadir lies on Morocco's Atlantic coast, where the Souss plain meets the ocean. From above, the bay is its most striking feature: a long, smooth crescent of beach that curves south from the port, lined by a seafront promenade. Behind it, the city spreads in a regular pattern of streets and blocks, with the foothills of the Atlas ranges further inland.
The regularity is not accidental. In 1960 an earthquake destroyed much of the old town, and Agadir was rebuilt on a new site to the south, with planned districts, wide avenues and modernist architecture. The ruins of the Agadir Oufella kasbah survive on the hill above the port. The slope below still carries a large Arabic inscription that reads God, Country, King.
To the north, the fishing and commercial port is one of the largest in Morocco, and its breakwaters form sharp angles against the ocean. An Agadir map poster shows the whole sequence in one sweep along the Atlantic: the harbour, the kasbah hill, the long crescent of sand and the planned city behind it.

The ruined Agadir Oufella kasbah sits on a hill above the port. The winding road to its summit stands out as a looping line on the map.
The centre was rebuilt after the 1960 earthquake to a deliberate layout of avenues, squares and residential blocks. It is noticeably more regular than older Moroccan cities.
